how do you train a blue heeler to chase a cow on comand and stop?

our dogs chase them and try to kill them

first off, teach the stop command. you may have to get a training collar depending on the age of the dogs. heelers should be started on ducks and chickens then move up ... my heeler acted like she would never get it right but she is a good working dog now. when i want her to stop I always use the word break even when obedience training. when i tell her to sit or down i make her stay untill she hears me say "break" then she get lavished with love. I don't use treats but some do and have good results with it.
